Ryde Carnival – It’s Back in 2021 celebrating our Carnival Town

Ryde Carnival 2021: A week-long programme of events (onthewight.com)

Ticket to Ryde returns with free live music and more (onthewight.com)

Ryde this week is celebrating during Covid (note I am not saying post Covid as many families are still facing the realities of this illness) and due to Covid the Carnival parade will not happen (hopefully next year). However, Ryde Carnival does have a programme of events and these are being organised from Shademaker’s new home at Packs Building on Cross Street/top of Union Street.

Ryde has a wonderful history of Carnival and please go and see the films of past Carnivals at the Packs Building this week, they are amazing. Ryde has incredibly has two internationally recognised Carnival companies (Shademakers and New Carnival Company) that go all over the World and Ryde Carnival was voted the most popular Carnival in the UK in 2018.

The fantastic news that Ryde based Shademakers (Packs Building) has been chosen to be part of the National Jubillee Parade in London in 2020 which is a great honour for the Town.

Ryde is coming back out of the Lockdowns with energy, resilience, innovation and hope. We have deckchairs on our beaches despite the sinkhole and our streets are starting to buzz with the Carnival spirit. The weekend sees the scooter rally and Ticket to Ryde on Eastern Gardens, so music and dancing in our Town.

Behind the scenes is the Ryde Town Council who has a fabulous staff team supporting events, promoting the Town and administering grants which celebrate Ryde’s community spirit. Ryde Business Association, Ryde Arts, Monkton Arts, Ryde Leisure (Ryde Town Council’s new Leisure arm), Shademakers, Ryde Society, Ryde Historic Action Zone, Ryde’s Voluntary Sector, Ryde Aspire and our retailers are all working together to make Ryde the place to visit and enjoy.
