In Memory Of John Ackroyd

March 18, 2021

I was very proud to attend the funeral of John Ackroyd on the 16th February 2021 at Newport Crematorium. It was a very moving service with his family and close friends. I was very proud in 2018 to successfully put John forward to receive the Freedom of Ryde. He was an inspirational innovator or just simply not only thought out of the box but in fact was out of the box completely. His work on cushioncrafts/hovercrafts, the first commercial electric cars (the Enfield), Trust – the fastest car for over 18 years with Richard Noble and Sir Richard Branson’s recorded breaking ballons, was inspirational. I am hoping that we can establish a permanent memorial to John and his work in the Town.
