Monday 5th December at 7pm at Monkton Arts, I am carrying out my challenge to transform into the late female impersonator, Danny La Rude as part of Monkton Arts Good Old Days evening in support of Ryde-based Men Only’s mental health social enterprise. I agreed as long as a minimum of £500 was raised by the night.
Well, my costume, wig, shoes, corset, and make-up are booked, I have rehearsed my songs “I am what I am” and “Mother Kelly’s doorstep”, learnt a few gags and although very nervous I am ready to go and shake a leg! Although, I will not go on off if the minimum of £500 is not raised. So please donate!
I have supported Men Only from the beginning as men are 4 times for likely to commit suicide than women and 4 times less likely to talk about it. Male suicides are the highest number of suicides in UK and on the Isle of Wight with Ryde being the highest (as most populated Town on Island) area of suicides and suicide attempts. I have not put on a dress before, well at least not in public, and only doing this to raise awareness as IW Council champion for mental health and as Mayor of Ryde. Please support me and donate. I thank Men Only for the work they do.
Ryde Town Council awarded them a grant along with IW Council’s Public Health department. They now support 100s of local men and I urge any man on the Island to reach out to them if you are in crisis, feel alone and isolate and depressed and anxious. It is a project created by men in the same boat, men supporting men.
